Our focus in teaching mathematics at Bredon School is to ensure that all youngsters fulfil their individual potential in this important subject.

As one of the National Curriculum core subjects, mathematics forms a significant part of every Bredon pupil's education from Year 3, with children in Years 3-6 following the national Qualification and Curriculum Authority (QCA) schemes of work.

Most Bredon children take Mathematics GCSE, following either the Linear Specification or Graduated Assessment. Children following the Linear Specification GCSE complete two formal tasks marked by the examination board and two final exams. This GCSE is entered at one of three tiers, Foundation, Intermediate or Higher ,depending on the child's abilities. The Graduated Assessment GCSE is divided into a series of modules, which are graduated in terms of the level of difficulty. It is particularly suitable for children who may struggle with memorising large amounts of information, for example.

Students who would find the full rigours of a GCSE course difficult take the Entry Level Certificate. This covers skills needed for life, such as money and measurements, as well as basic addition and subtraction skills. This course is made as practical as possible.

In the Sixth Form, A and AS Level Mathematics are available, with modules offered in the areas of pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics and discrete mathematics. Applied mathematics is also one of the modules for the Engineering AVCE (Vocational A level).
