Members of Jarrett House carried out a special ceremony to plant an oak tree. The children themselves came up with the idea, as a way to symbolise and remember their House. In future they say they will bring their own children and grandchildren to see it. As oaks can take up to 30 years to grow to maturity, two of the youngest members of the House, Elizabeth and Andrew Smith, were invited to dig the first hole. Teacher Mike Tweddell staked the tree and Michael Labisch, who was celebrating his birthday, and teachers Lorraine Keyte and Elizabeth Dunne also took part in the ceremony.
