IT work is, therefore, based largely around project work. By making sure that IT is always relevant to a practical task, rather than being just an abstract exercise, children learn much more effectively. We encourage students to follow a theme, using IT to assist them at every stage. During this process, they might typically use several different forms of software, from spreadsheet applications to animation programs. IT is first introduced from the earliest years at the school (Year 3). Specialist subject teaching begins in Year 7 and it is a compulsory subject through to the end of Year 11. At post-16 level, we teach IT more informally to assist students with their other studies. After first studying introductory projects, such as designing business stationery in Year 8, by the end of Year 10 pupils are expected to have acquired key IT skills, such as the basics of word-processing, spreadsheets and databases. At Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11), IT is taught through a vocational qualification framework, which introduces areas such as Powerpoint presentations and web design. All Key Stage 4 students are expected to use a computer outside lesson time, whether at home or in school clubs. Both PC and Apple Mac systems are available within the school. |

One of the key aims of teaching IT, or ICT (Information & Communications Technology), at Bredon School is to equip children with the computer skills they need for their other studies and their later careers.
