Message from Madrid: Bredon School’s new Spanish owner tells parents “We’ll work together” PDF Print E-mail

Bredon School can look forward to growing co-operation with its new sister schools in Spain. That was the message to parents at Founder’s Day – the traditional highlight of Bredon’s School’s year – from Mariano Moreno, Chairman of the Spanish-British education group, Colegios Laude. It was announced in January that Colegios Laude had bought the independent school near Tewkesbury.

“I have just spent two very enjoyable hours walking around the School,” Sr Moreno told the Founder’s Day audience of pupils, parents, staff and friends. “It has served to confirm how special and outstanding it is. We are delighted to have such a great School in our group. I look forward to growing co-operation between Bredon and our schools in Spain, of which a good number use the English curriculum.

“It is our intention to build a group of schools beyond Spain and beyond the UK,” Sr Moreno said, but he added that in the current economic climate, there was a need to consolidate and increase efficiency.

Since January, the boarding school has welcomed five girls and two boys from Colegios Laude schools in Spain who have come to Bredon to improve their English. School Principal David Keyte said: “The seven have been an absolute credit to themselves and have only enhanced the reputation of Bredon School.”

Mr Keyte reflected in his speech on a successful year which has ended with pupil numbers at their highest level – 244 – for more than a decade, notwithstanding the current recession.

There had been academic success, sporting triumphs and fresh achievements for those working on the School Farm, he said.

Mr Keyte concluded by assuring parents that the acquisition of the School by Colegios Laude had not changed the School’s original ethos, “to take the whole child and not merely the academic side; to have small classes and to develop the child’s character and interests, helping him or her to become a useful citizen”.
