| Bredon School’s golden year |

Six of last summer’s leavers from the independent school at Bushley near Tewkesbury have won the Gold Award – the highest total in the school’s 48-year history. Principal David Keyte said: “The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has long been a key programme for Bredon School, helping to get our students out and about and broaden their experience of life. “These six students really deserve tremendous congratulation. Achieving gold is no mean feat: it requires sustained effort across the five areas of Community, Physical Activity, Skill, an Expedition and a Residential element. Dedication is required not only from the young people taking part, but also from the staff who support them.” Gold winners Tom Howells, Will Bowen, Dan Hughes and Matt Griffin visited St James’s Palace and received their awards from Prince Philip. They were accompanied by teacher Mike Tweddell. Two other Bredon gold award winners, Oliver Leventhal and James Pine, are due to receive theirs at a ceremony in July. The six all left Bredon School last summer, having followed the Duke of Edinburgh programme at the school. Bredon School, which is set in 84 acres of ground around the Pull Court mansion, offers an unusually wide range of vocational courses, sports and extra-curricular activities – including lessons on the school farm – as well as a full academic curriculum.
