Bredon School's May Fete is on target for Bank Holiday family fun

Budding sharp-shooters will be spoilt for choice at Bredon School's Bank Holiday Monday May Fete & Country Fair on 3 May.

With a huge range of attractions for all the family, the event at the independent school at Bushley, close to Tewkesbury, annually draws many hundreds of people of all ages.

And this year there is a particularly wide choice for those who fancy trying their hand at a little target practice, including an air cannon shoot, archery, air-rifle shooting and a ‘have a go' clay shoot.

Bredon School Principal David Keyte said: “The Fete & Country Fair is always one of the highlights of our year, when we have the opportunity to welcome hundreds of people from the local community. Above all, we aim to offer an inexpensive day out that's great fun for all the family.

The day's activities start with a “50 bird sporting” clay shoot beginning at 10am (for experienced shooters). Visitors are welcome to picnic in the picturesque 84-acre garden and grounds from 11.30am, while the fete itself runs from noon until 4pm.

There are dozens of attractions to suit all tastes at the May Fete. The more intrepid visitor can, for example, get behind the wheel for some 4x4 off-road driving around the school's exciting woodland course. Those who enjoy a gentler pace of life can take afternoon tea amid the splendour of Pull Court, the Victorian mansion at the heart of the school, before sampling the wares of the cake stall or buying a basketful of plants grown at the school.

For children, the fairground stalls and bouncy castle-type rides are always popular. Older children love the chance to try knocking their friends or parents off the pole in the gladiator challenge.

Those with a liking for history enjoy the parade of vintage tractors and the opportunity to see the fete from the high vantage point of the traditional Weston Cider dray pulled by magnificent shire horses.

There is plenty to eat and drink at the Fete: hamburgers, hot dogs and candy floss are all available, as is a pig roast. The Pimms tent, operated by the school's Parents' Association, offers an early taste of summer.

The Country Fair on an adjoining field will feature plenty of stalls catering for both the general visitor and the more serious countryman and woman. The Country Fair is supported by such well-known names as Browning, Webley & Scott, Bowman Traps, the Oxford Gun Company, Prescott Shooting, Stratstone Land Rover and the National Organisation of Beaters and Pickers Up.

The entry fee is £2 per car and there is ample parking. All attractions are offered subject to final confirmation and to the weather.
