Established soon after the school was founded in 1962, it is a fully working farm, complete with pigs, cows, sheep, poultry and small animals. There are also extensive greenhouses.

A major development programme is now underway to give the farm its own, dedicated classrooms, while there will also be more pens for the livestock and improved office and cloakroom facilities.

All the younger children at Bredon, from Year 3 upwards, spend at least one hour each week at the farm. Children who love animals or enjoy growing plants will find that volunteers for extra work are always welcome!

But the farm is not only an invaluable resource in the general life of the school; it is also an excellent facility for more serious vocational studies. A GCSE Rural & Agricultural Science course is offered in Years 10 and 11, as well as a Land Based Operations National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) and BTEC 1 st Diploma in Countryside and Environment in the Sixth Form.

In line with the changing face of British agriculture, education in conservation forms an increasingly significant part of the studies at Bredon, together with specialist food production and the use of land for leisure. The school also has close links with other local farms, nurseries and garden centres, which vocational students visit regularly.

• Bredon School Farm is one of only around 40 school farms across both the state and independent education sectors in the UK
• The farm has a long record of success at leading UK agricultural shows and often wins prizes for its Pedigree Large White pigs
• Other pedigree animals include South Devon suckler cows, Welsh Mule ewes and Texel rams
• The farm's greenhouses grow around 6,500 bedding plants each year. Of these, 3,000 are planted around the school and many of the remaining plants are sold at the school's annual May Fair.
