A pupil at Bredon School achieved seven GCSE A* or A grades passes this summer and was joined by several students with more than seven grade C passes each. The national benchmark for GCSEs is five passes at A*-C. This represents an outstanding achievement both for the pupils involved and for the independent school near Tewkesbury. "We are again very pleased with the performance of our GCSE and Post 16 candidates in this year's examinations", said Vice Principal (Academic) Sue Webb. Traditionally, Bredon School caters for children who may not be academic high-fliers, but who benefit from Bredon's individually tailored approach to education. It offers a very broad curriculum, featuring a wide range of sports and vocational courses as well as traditional academic subjects. The school also has an international reputation for its work to help children with dyslexia and other Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD). Whilst actual GCSE grades may not, perhaps, compare to those of some other schools, when those grades are measured against our students' starting points, or potential, the resulting "value added" scores showed that Bredon School can have a profound and positive effect on learning, added Mrs Webb. Bredon School also enabled a number of students who were predicted to be incapable of passing any GCSE examinations before they joined Bredon to achieve standards significantly beyond their parents' expectations, including several GCSE passes at A-C. This clearly shows that the school is very well-equipped to teach individuals of varying abilities. Clearly, the tuition and support has again resulted in the vast majority of our students exceeding not only our, but even their, expectations, said Director of Studies Peter Basten. Founded in 1962, Bredon School has around 230 boys and girls, aged 7-18. The school is set in 84 acres around the historic Pull Court mansion.
