![]() Mr Nick Allison - Head of Boarding & Care Above all, Bredon aims to provide a happy family atmosphere for its boarders, where everyone feels safe and can relax or study in a homely atmosphere. To achieve this, the school has moved away from the historic independent school practice of allowing teachers to act as houseparents during evenings and weekends. Instead, qualified child care professionals are employed as houseparents, leaving teachers free to focus exclusively on teaching. Boarders are assigned to the care of a houseparent, who takes primary responsibility for them. The houseparents are supported by many other staff, including the Resident Matron. Staff organise a wide range of after-school recreational activities, including cookery, art & craft and sport. At weekends, an extensive programme is provided, featuring regular outings such as ice skating, bowling and shopping. The school has its own medical team and fully equipped sanatorium, offering round-the-clock care. Close links also exist with local doctors. All boarding areas are well staffed and equipped with a games room, reading room, TV and video lounge, a kitchen and a tuck shop. Pupils are encouraged to display personal items, such as photographs and posters. Senior pupils are allocated their own individual work stations.Boys aged 11 to 15 years live in the main house in dormitories based on age. Girl boarders are housed in a separate part of the main building. Most girls are accommodated in dormitories for between three and five. Sixth Form girls are usually able to choose either a single room or to share with one other girl. The senior boys are accommodated in the Stable House, where pupils are allocated a single study-bedroom. New bedrooms housing 25 junior boys at Pull Court were opened in late 2002. Plans are also well advanced for a new, purpose-built senior boarding centre. |
