Staff and pupils at independent Bredon School are celebrating after winning three awards for academic performance. The co-educational day and boarding school near Tewkesbury won awards from the well respected Good Schools Guide in three different GCSE subjects. The awards reflect the success that pupils achieve in each particular subject compared to other examinations they take and the popularity of each subject compared to other similar schools. Bredon School achieved the following Good Schools Guide Awards:
Bredon School Principal David Keyte said: “I am delighted that we have won three awards across such a broad spectrum of the curriculum. It’s a tribute to our focus on a detailed, professional approach to teaching & learning and, of course, to the hard work of our students. “These awards also reflect the fact that we take great care to match our curriculum to the interests and the abilities of our pupils. We find that vocational subjects such as Rural Science are increasingly popular here, yet they are not taught at many schools. By making sure children take the GCSEs that are right for them, we set them up to succeed, not to fail.” Mr Keyte added that Bredon School currently has a record total of 25 children following the Rural Science GCSE course on the School’s farm, headed by Farm Manager Charlie Slatter. Geoff Lucas, Editor of the Good Schools Guide, explained why his publication had set up the awards scheme: “Our aim is to highlight excellent teaching in individual subjects.” Bredon School has 242 pupils, aged between 7 and 18, and is based around the historic Pull Court mansion at Bushley. It welcomes pupils of all abilities.
