Bredon School teams up with Alderman Knight

Alderman Knight School in Tewkesbury is increasing its community links by teaming up with the independent Bredon School.

Earlier this term 22 primary age pupils from Alderman Knight, which caters for children with moderate/complex learning difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Disorders, spent a morning on the farm at Bredon School. Now juniors from Bredon School will spend the day at Alderman Knight’s for a Christmas arts & crafts morning.

Principal of Bredon School David Keyte said “We were delighted when Alderman Knight School approached us about developing links. We have wonderful facilities here, with our own working farm, large sports hall, extensive grounds and swimming pool. We are more than happy to share them. We also believe it’s important that our pupils gain an insight into the different challenges that some other children can face.”

Janet Davies, the Senior Teaching Assistant at Alderman Knights who is responsible for developing links, said “Our children had a wonderful time on the farm at Bredon School, learning about how water is used, as part of a curriculum-based project. They loved the sense of space and the beautiful grounds – particularly the assault course. We are always on the look out for opportunities to enable our pupils to enjoy new experiences as well as sharing our own resources, facilities and expertise.”

Pupils from Alderman Knight have also enjoyed an autumn walk through the woods at Bredon School. Children from both schools then made ‘trees of friendship’; drawing around their hands and using the cut out shapes for leaves.

The two schools have now mapped out a series of events over the next school year, which will culminate in Bredon School’s Junior Challenge. The event takes place every summer when up to 10 local junior schools take part in a series of sporting and craft activities along with a quiz and a swimming gala. Alderman Knight will enter a team for the first time.

Bredon School has 242 pupils, aged between 7 and 18, and is based around the historic Pull Court mansion at Bushley near Tewkesbury. It welcomes pupils of all abilities.
