|
Phil Steventon, Issy Baguma and Bijan Morviradi, who all finished Sixth Form in the summer, and have now moved on to Higher Education, completed all the elements of the award while pupils at Bredon School. Principal David Keyte said “I am extremely proud of their achievement. Part of the ethos of the School is to offer pupils the opportunity to succeed across a broad spectrum; be it academic, vocational or sport. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a tremendous vehicle for developing qualities of service and leadership in young people – qualities we have always valued at Bredon School. The boys all worked exceptionally hard to achieve the Gold Award.” The boys had to complete five elements – Service, Skill, Physical, Expedition and Residential. They chose a range of activities; coaching the school’s U14 badminton team, reading with the School’s Juniors , raising money for a children’s home in Uganda and working with disabled people in a home. For their expedition they spent four days and three cold and wet nights under canvas in the Lake District. Their mothers were invited to watch them receive their awards at St James’s Palace. Bredon School has 242 pupils, aged between 7 and 18, and is based around the historic Pull Court mansion at Bushley, near Tewkesbury. It welcomes pupils of all abilities.
