New investment from Spain gives Bredon School a bright future PDF Print E-mail

Bredon School today (Monday 2 February) announced that it has secured its long-term future with a major investment from a leading European education group.

Colegios Laude, which educates more than 5,500 children in its ten schools in Spain, has bought the independent School near Tewkesbury.

The agreement with Colegios Laude will give Bredon School access to greater financial and educational resources.

Bredon School Principal David Keyte said: "This investment is excellent news for the long-term future of Bredon School. As the owner of the School for the past six years, I have taken Bredon as far as I can with my own resources. By bringing in a company with the financial strength and educational expertise of Colegios Laude as the new owners, we can now ensure that Bredon continues the rapid progress it has made over the last few years."

Mr Keyte will remain as Principal and on the School's Board of Directors. "In the midst of a difficult economic climate, Bredon has remained a highly successful School, with pupil numbers this year at their highest since 1999," he said. "There is always someone interested in acquiring a successful school: over the past two years I have turned down three offers for Bredon, because I wanted to be sure that the School would retain its unique ethos.

"With Colegios Laude, I am convinced that we have found the right buyers: they are respected educationalists with decades of experience of running independent schools. Neither I nor Colegios Laude want to disrupt Bredon School's winning formula, so parents won't notice any changes in the way the School is run or in the education we deliver."

Ramon Resa, Chief Executive Officer of Colegios Laude (pictured, left, with Mr Keyte) said: "It really is an honour for us to welcome a school such as Bredon into the group. It matches perfectly with our educational philosophy and way of doing things. It is also a privilege to have Mr Keyte continuing as the Principal and on the Board of the School.

Senor Resa added: "We will be able to offer Bredon students the possibility of spending any term of the year in any of our schools in Spain. Five of the schools there follow the British Curriculum and five follow the Spanish one, so there really is a choice & and not only in terms of academic approach, but also in the variety of prime locations offered."
Colegios Laude will also be learning from Bredon School's long established expertise in helping children with specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia.

The agreement with Colegios Laude is by no means Bredon School's first connection with Spain. Unusually, Spanish is the main foreign language taught at GCSE at the School. There is also a residential building on the school's 84-acre campus named Spaniards' Cottage in memory of a much-loved couple from Spain who worked at the School during the 1960s.

Bredon School, which was founded in 1962, currently has more than 240 pupils. A day and boarding school for boys and girls, it is known for its individual approach to education. As well as the normal academic subjects, it offers a wide vocational curriculum and also has its own working farm.
