The independent School at Bushley, near Tewkesbury, is a mainstream school, but has always been acknowledged for its strengths in working with pupils with dyslexia.
“Bredon School worked closely with Aston University in establishing the Aston Index back in the 1970s, a comprehensive range of assessments for diagnosing language difficulties that is still used today. The School has remained at the forefront of teaching techniques for pupils with dyslexia ever since,” said Mrs Webb.
Bredon has responded quickly to recent developments, particularly in IT. With an emphasis on ‘continuous improvement’, the School has invested heavily in cutting-edge software, such as Clicker/Word Bar, to support and encourage pupils.
“The key to Bredon’s success is that we don’t just use the software in separate learning support sessions. All the staff encourage pupils to make use of voice-activated software on a day-to-day basis to produce work of high quality in all areas of the curriculum,” added Mrs Webb.
