ASDAN Land Based Studies
You will learn the basic aspects of agriculture on a principally livestock farm. You will learn how to provide the principles of livestock husbandry across the range of animals we have on our farm. Modules include Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Care, Environment and Countryside Management and Health and Safety.
How is the course structured and graded?
This course is entirely vocational. No grade is given, however on completion of this course you will be awarded a certificate which will count towards your final qualification should you choose to progress to the ASDAN course in Sixth Form or BTEC Level 2 in Agriculture.
Will this course be suitable for me?
The course involves a great deal of practical work. You will be on the farm for most lessons, taking part in husbandry tasks and helping the Farm Manager with the day to day running of the farm. You should enjoy working with animals and being outdoors. There is also an element of written work.
What could this course lead to?
This course is aimed at pupils who may wish to study the ASDAN course and/or a BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Agriculture in Sixth Form.

ASDAN ENTERPRISE
This will involve you running your own business enterprise. You will develop skills to allow you to do this such as communication, teamwork, negotiation and personal selling. You will also learn who to target with your products, how to calculate costs, revenue and profit, and how to market your business successfully.
How is the course structured and graded?
The course is an Entry Level course and is made up of separate units which include challenges such as researching successful businesses and running your own enterprise project.
Will this course be suitable for me?
This course is suitable for students who might find the GCSE pathway challenging and would benefit from developing confidence whilst learning in a safe environment. This course is ideal for students who are also taking other Entry Level courses.
What could this course lead to?
This course provides the opportunity to study CoPE (Certificate of Personal Effectiveness) Level 1 or 2 in the Sixth Form, which builds on what has been studied in Years 10 and 11.

ASDAN PERSONAL SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT (Entry Level 3)
The aims of this qualification are to offer imaginative ways of supporting young people to become confident individuals who are physically, emotionally and socially healthy. Pupils will learn more about the importance of being responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society and embrace change, whilst also taking on new activities and personal challenges.
How is this course structured and graded?
The qualification is 100% coursework. Pupils are required to build up a portfolio of evidence ranging from small pieces of written work to photographs and witness statements. The course is delivered through a series of challenges, which accrue credits. Challenges include Environmental Awareness, Health Lifestyles and Preparation for Work. 6 credits are required for the Award and 13 credits for the full Certificate. Each credit represents at least 10 hours of study.

This course is suitable for pupils who may find the GCSE pathway challenging and would benefit from developing confidence whilst learning in a safe environment.
What could this course lead to?
Pupils on the 6th form can study ASDAN CoPE at level 1 or 2, with Level 2 being the equivalent of a B grade at GCSE.
