Catering: Hospitality

This course is designed to build on basic skills and knowledge acquired at Key Stage 3 in Years 7, 8 and 9. This course gives students a general introduction to the hospitality industry including: food preparation and cooking, food and drink service, and accommodation. It will give you the tools to enable you to work part-time in the industry or find a suitable work experience. 

How is the course structured and graded? 

Assessment is based upon 100% coursework. Students will take a minimum of five units that will include the Hospitality Industry, Food Preparation and Cooking, Food and Drinks Service, and Food Commodities. The units are graded as a pass/fail and each unit will need to be passed for successful completion of the course. This course is externally moderated. 

Will this course be suitable for me? 

This course will appeal to those students who enjoy getting ‘stuck in’ and enjoy all things related to food and drink. It will cover both cookery and food service and has a large practical element to it. 

What could this course lead to? 

This course could potentially lead on to further study, a traineeship or an apprenticeship in the catering industry. Many who take this course move onto the Hospitality course in our Sixth Form.
