(Years 12 and 13)
For the second year running, Bredon School is ranked in the top 1% of schools and colleges in England for ‘value added’ for students aged 16 to 18 years. Department for Education, January 2020
Joining the Sixth Form at Bredon School is an exciting time for any student, both for those moving up from our Year 11 and those joining us from another school. The years spent in our Sixth Form are designed to help students make the transition from the tightly structured life of a school child, to the freedom and responsibility of life as an adult. They will develop confidence in leadership and teamwork, as well as working towards the best possible academic results.
In August 2019, our students achieved excellent A Level and BTEC examination results. 100% of students achieved A*-C at A Level, with 63% gaining A* - B. For BTECs (Level 3) the pass rate was also 100%.
Our Sixth Form, led by Mrs Adams, Head of Sixth Form, offers a comprehensive programme, from a strong student leadership team, consisting of a Head Boy and Head Girl, along with their Deputies and Student Prefects. Under the guidance of their tutors, Bredon’s Sixth Form students enjoy extra privileges, such as no longer having to wear a uniform, access to a separate activity and events programme, as well as a dedicated Sixth Form Centre and social areas. Our students are also actively encouraged to take more responsibility for themselves, planning their own studies, sports, charity projects and social events.
Our aim in Sixth Form is to ensure that every student is given the opportunity to achieve their true potential and to have the necessary qualifications and skills to take their next step when they finally leave Bredon.
"It is amazing to think given (our son’s) chequered educational history prior to arriving at Bredon that he has a chance to aim so high – without Bredon this would simply not have been possible. Thank you."
What to study?
The most important reasons to choose a subject are that you find it interesting and you enjoy studying it. At Bredon we offer a wide curriculum, covering traditional A Levels to BTEC Level 1, 2 and 3 courses, fully supported by a bespoke work experience programme. We are also proud to offer our CISCO Academy, Level 2 and Level 3 courses, with the pathway of a placement on an apprenticeship programme.
According to Government figures published in January 2020, Bredon School is ranked number 23 out of 4,470 schools and colleges in England for ‘value added’ for students aged 16 to 18 years. Having been ranked as number 1 last year, this result puts the school in the top 1% of schools and colleges for two years in a row.
Bredon School’s top ranking is based on Department of Education figures which show how much progress A level students at Bredon made between the end of key stage 4 and the end of their A level studies, compared to similar students across England.
For Year 12 students, the school year begins with residential Sixth Form Leadership Camp in a rural location where they grow as an individual and as a group. The week also allows staff to identify those with the potential to be Prefects within the School. It is lots of fun too!
In addition to their studies, all Sixth Form students can take a selection of enhancement programmes designed to help them develop their personal and social skills. These include: Duke of Edinburgh Award; Work Experience; Young Enterprise; community service; School Council; sport; activities; positions of responsibility; academic support; English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
Entry to the Sixth Form
All students – both our own Year 11 and external candidates – are required to make a formal application to join the Sixth Form. Places will be granted based on pupils’ ambitions, their predicted grades and by interview.
"The school’s individualised approach and extensive curriculum… ensure that every pupil can make progress and develop confidence and skills for the future."
