Personalised Learning in Small Class Sizes

At Bredon School, our teaching approach is designed around individual strengths and needs. With small class sizes of around 12 students, we provide personalised learning that allows every child to progress at their own pace.

All students study English and Maths daily up to Year 9, building core literacy and numeracy skills with support from experienced, specialist staff.

We also make assistive technology available to every student – tools that remove barriers and help students work with greater independence and confidence.

Pathways to Success from Year 10

From Year 10, students can follow one of three tailored educational pathways, depending on their interests, strengths and future aspirations:

  • Academic: A focus on core subjects and GCSE preparation
  • Creative: Art, music, drama and design
  • Vocational: Career-focused courses in practical subjects

Our flexible curriculum ensures that every student can find a route that reflects who they are – and where they want to go.

Learning That Extends Beyond the Classroom

Outdoor education is a key part of life at Bredon. Our School Farm, Forest School and expansive outdoor spaces provide countless opportunities for hands-on learning.

We bring learning to life with lessons like Maths on the Farm or English in the Forest, encouraging creativity, practical thinking and real-world problem solving.

Specialist Support in the Senior School

As students move through the school, we continue to offer tailored support to help them reach their goals.

This includes access to academic resits, individualised intervention and dedicated guidance through key transition points – such as exam preparation or moving into Sixth Form or College.

Effective Learning Strategies That Work

Our staff are trained in a wide range of research-informed strategies to support dyslexic students. These include:

  • Step-by-step instructions: “Tell me what to do first, next…”
  • Bite-sized learning: Breaking information into manageable chunks
  • Verbal rehearsal: Encouraging repetition to reinforce memory
  • Extra processing time: Allowing time to absorb and reflect
  • Visual prompts: Using handouts, diagrams and memory aids
  • Overlearning: Reinforcing key skills through structured repetition
  • Movement breaks: Boosting focus and wellbeing
  • Short, engaging tasks: Keeping learning dynamic and motivating
  • Clear task reminders: Helping students stay organised
  • Multi-sensory teaching: Using a range of sensory approaches to suit every student
