Duke of Edinburgh

Bredon is a Directly Licensed Centre for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, an internationally recognised programme that encourages students to step beyond their comfort zone, grow in confidence and independence. Students take part in volunteering, develop a personal skill, complete a physical activity and work towards an expedition, where they plan, train for and carry out an outdoor journey.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Levels

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is structured into three progressive levels, allowing students to develop their skills, resilience and independence as they move through the school:

  • Bronze: from Year 9 – students complete volunteering, a skill, a physical activity and an expedition, working with support to build confidence and teamwork.
  • Silver: from Year 10 – Students take on more responsibility in planning and completing their activities and undertake a longer expedition with increased independence.
  • Gold: from Year 12 – Students commit to a more demanding programme, including a residential experience alongside volunteering, skills, physical activity and an extended expedition.

Award Progression and Recognition

Gold Award recipients are invited to St James’s Palace in London to attend a prestigious celebration ceremony, where they receive their certificate from a member of the Royal Family. The event recognises the dedication, perseverance and achievement required to complete the highest level of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, marking a significant milestone in each participant’s personal development.
