Beyond the Junior Classroom

At Bredon, we believe some of the most powerful learning happens beyond the classroom walls. In our Junior School (Years 4–6), every day offers different opportunities to explore, discover and grow in confidence within our 84-acre countryside campus.

Through Outdoor Education, Forest Learning and hands-on experiences across our farm, Senior School and woodland. Students learn in real-world contexts that build independence, resilience and teamwork. These experiences bring learning to life and help children develop confidence and a lasting connection with the natural world.

Growing Confidence, Friendships & Character

Beyond academics, this blend of outdoor education, farm life, sport, clubs and pastoral care allows Junior students to discover new interests, make meaningful friendships and develop resilience. Whether building a shelter in the forest, caring for a lamb, scaling a climbing wall or putting on a class performance, these experiences help them grow into confident, capable young learners ready for the next stage of their journey.

Outdoor Education as a Core Experience

Outdoor Education is a regular part of the weekly timetable, making full use of our beautiful 84-acre countryside campus and riverside environment. These sessions foster independence, resilience and teamwork through hands-on, outdoor experiences.

We also run Forest Learning sessions, where students develop practical skills such as starting a campfire, alongside nature-based learning that enriches and complements the core curriculum.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION & ACTIVITIES

The Working School Farm

Our farm is a treasured part of School life. Students help care for animals such as sheep, pigs, ponies and poultry, and assist with planting, growing and harvesting crops. Every season brings new learning: lambing in spring, collecting fresh eggs, planting vegetables and watching them grow into something they can harvest.

Along with timetabled farm lessons, Juniors also have the option of joining Farm Club on a Wednesday afternoon, where they can further deepen their learning, take on new responsibilities, and enjoy even more hands-on time working with the animals.

Residential Trips & Adventures

One of the highlights of Junior School year is the annual residential trip, where students spend several days away together taking part in outdoor challenges, team-building activities and new experiences. Whether abseiling for the first time, tackling high ropes or working as a team to complete an obstacle course, these trips create memories that last a lifetime. They also encourage independence, resilience and deeper friendships as students learn to live and work together outside the classroom.
