Clay pigeon shooting has been a long-standing part of life at Bredon School and remains one of the school’s most distinctive sporting opportunities. Taking place on our purpose-built shooting ground, our students are able to experience shooting for the first time in a safe and supportive environment or develop their abilities as part of our competitive shooting teams.

At Bredon, we offer CPS lessons every Wednesday, with further opportunities to travel to events and competitions throughout the year.

Sessions are tailored to individual experience levels, allowing beginners and experienced shooters alike to progress at a pace that suits them. Under the guidance of experienced instructors who are brought in by Bredon, students learn correct technique, gun handling, target recognition and competition skills.

Outstanding Facilities

Set within the Gloucestershire countryside, Bredon’s dedicated clay pigeon shooting ground provides students with access to specialist facilities rarely found in schools. The shooting ground forms part of our school’s wider outdoor education programme, which makes full use of the extensive estate and encourages students to learn beyond the classroom. Alongside shooting, our students have opportunities to engage in activities including climbing, kayaking, bushcraft and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions.

Competitive Shooting

Bredon’s shooting teams have achieved considerable success in regional and national competitions over many years. The school has previously been recognised by the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association (CPSA) as School of the Year, reflecting our commitment to encouraging participation and developing young shooters.

Recently, Bredon proudly hosted the Open and ISA National Clay Pigeon Shooting Finals at Mount Oliver Shooting Ground in Hartpury for the second consecutive year, following the event’s successful launch in 2025. Highlights included exceptional performances across both the girls’ and mixed team categories, reflecting the high standard of competition throughout the day. The girls’ team retained their ISA National title and secured their first Open Championship victory.

• Team GB Junior International Representation & European Team Bronze Medal (2021)
• Schools Challenge National Champion – Tom Scott (2015)
