Dyslexia Awareness Week 2026

Celebrating Different Ways of Thinking

Dyslexia Awareness Week 2026 took place from 5–11 October, bringing our students, staff and wider Bredon community together to raise awareness and understanding of dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties (SpLDs).

This year’s theme, ‘Nature, Nurture, Neurodiversity’, gave us the opportunity to explore the different ways people think, learn and experience the world around them.

Throughout the week, our school community took part in a range of activities celebrating individual talents, strengths and achievements. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise what makes each of us unique and highlight the different ways our minds work.

Throughout the week, we shared a series of webinars exploring dyslexia, neurodiversity, and the different ways we support students at Bredon. Led by members of our specialist team, the sessions offered practical advice and guidance for parents, educators and anyone interested in understanding learning differences.

The webinars covered:

  • • Personalised Support at Bredon School
  • • Assistive Technology
  • • Exam Access Arrangements
  • • Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
  • • Dyscalculia, Maths Difficulties and Practical Strategies

Highlights from the week

Door decorating competition

To kick-start Dyslexia Awareness Week, each department got creative with a door-decorating competition inspired by this year’s theme. We had colourful displays and thoughtful designs; our staff brought plenty of imagination and creativity to the challenge.

Bulbs and Books

As part of our Bulbs and Books activity, students planted daffodil bulbs to take home and give to someone they appreciate. Whether for a member of staff who has made a difference or someone special outside School, it was a simple but thoughtful way to spread a little kindness.

Cottage codes

Our students took on six GCHQ-inspired challenges at lunchtime, putting their problem-solving skills and creativity to the test while working together to crack each one.

Local Schools visit to Bredon

We welcomed teachers from local schools to a workshop sharing Bredon’s approach to dyslexic teaching, with sessions on oracy, assistive technology, dyscalculia and mental health, plus a Q&A with our specialist therapists.

Drumming Workshop

To finish Dyslexia Awareness Week, students took part in a drumming workshop with Severn Arts. They tried out different instruments, explored sounds and rhythms, and had fun making music together.

Why This Matters

Dyslexia Awareness Week is an opportunity to celebrate the different ways we think and learn, while helping others better understand dyslexia and other SpLDs. From creative activities and problem-solving challenges to sharing teaching strategies, each activity highlighted the importance of recognising individual strengths and finding the right support to help every student thrive.

Dyslexia Awareness Week 2027 will take place from 4th to 10th October, and we are excited to make it bigger and better than last year.
