Dyslexia Awareness Week 2025

Celebrating Dyslexia at Bredon

Dyslexia Awareness Week 2025 was a fantastic opportunity for the whole Bredon community to come together and celebrate the strengths, talents and achievements of dyslexic learners.

Throughout the week, students, staff, parents and visitors took part in a range of activities designed to raise awareness, spark conversations and highlight the many different ways people learn and think. It was a week full of creativity, learning and plenty of memorable moments.

Highlights from the Week

Sam Rapp, The Dyslexic Poet

We kicked off the week with a visit from Sam Rapp, The Dyslexic Poet. Sam shared her personal journey as a neurodiverse writer and performer, inspiring students through her poetry and performances.

Poetry Café

On Tuesday, students gathered for our Poetry Café, where staff members shared some of their favourite poems. It was a chance to enjoy poetry together and celebrate the power of language, creativity and self-expression.

Detect the Dyslexic

Wednesday brought one of the week’s most talked-about activities. Staff swapped their usual roles to become famous dyslexic figures, including athletes, musicians, chefs and television personalities.

Local Schools Training Day

We were delighted to welcome 35 educators from local schools to Bredon for a specialist training day.

The event gave visitors an insight into how we support students with dyslexia, covering topics such as recognising signs of dyslexia, classroom strategies, assistive technology, wellbeing and mental health.

Parent Open Day

To round off the week, we welcomed current parents to Garden Cottage for a special open day showcasing our dyslexia-friendly teaching approaches and support across the school.

It was wonderful to see so many families attend and engage with the ways we help students build confidence, develop independence and achieve success in the classroom and beyond.

Why this Matters

Dyslexia Awareness Week is about more than a series of events. It is a chance to celebrate the unique strengths of dyslexic learners, challenge common misconceptions and help everyone better understand the different ways people learn.

The energy and positivity seen throughout the week reflected what makes Bredon so special. From students sharing their creativity to staff, parents and visitors coming together to learn more about dyslexia, the week celebrated the strengths of our learners and reinforced the importance of creating an environment where every child feels understood, supported and able to thrive.

We had some amazing feedback from staff who attended our local schools’ training day:
