Our Approach

Where Different Minds Thrive

The Bredon Lesson

Bredon School is a CReSTeD-recognised mainstream independent setting that specialises in educating learners with Dyslexia and other SPLDs. Our small setting provides a nurturing environment where dyslexia-friendly teaching is embedded throughout the entire curriculum.

CReSTeD – Registration of Schools Teaching Dyslexic STUDENTS

Our universal provision is underpinned by The Bredon Lesson, a consistent whole-school approach to teaching and learning that supports every student to engage, achieve and grow in confidence.

The Bredon Lesson focuses on:

  • • Clear Expectations and Guidance: Students are supported through predictable lesson structures, clear instructions and shared success criteria.
  • • Thinking Strategies: Teaching encourages students to develop problem-solving skills, independence and reflective thinking.
  • • Self-Awareness and Confidence: Supportive feedback and opportunities for reflection help students recognise their progress and build resilience.
  • • Guided Practice:  Teachers model learning explicitly and provide scaffolded support to ensure students feel secure before working independently.
  • • Strategic Delivery: Lessons are carefully planned to reduce cognitive load, reinforce key knowledge and support memory and understanding.
  • • Technology to Enhance Learning: Assistive technology is embedded throughout the school to promote independence, organisation and accessibility for all learners.

This shared approach creates calm, supportive and engaging classrooms where students can thrive.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Learning at Bredon extends far beyond traditional classroom walls. Outdoor education is an important part of school life, with our School Farm, Forest Learning programme and expansive outdoor spaces offering meaningful opportunities for hands-on learning.

Students experience subjects in practical and engaging ways through activities such as Maths and Science on the Farm or English in the Forest. These experiences help bring learning to life while developing teamwork, communication, creativity and problem-solving skills.

Outdoor learning also supports emotional wellbeing, confidence and independence, helping students build stronger connections with the world around them.

Pathways to Success

From Year 10 onwards, students can follow personalised pathways that reflect their interests, strengths and future goals.

  • • Academic Pathway: A focus on core subjects and GCSE preparation for students pursuing more traditional academic routes.
  • • Creative Pathway: Opportunities to develop talents in art, music, drama and design.
  • • Vocational Pathway: Career-focused learning in practical subjects that develop transferable workplace skills.
  • • Vocational Plus Pathway: Specialist Sixth Form programmes in Professional Cookery, Outdoor Education and Land-Based Studies designed to build hands-on, career-ready experience.

Our flexible curriculum ensures that every student can access a pathway that reflects who they are and where they want to go next.
