Bredon School enjoyed a fantastic day of competition at the ISA National Clay Pigeon Shooting Championships at Mount Oliver Shooting Ground in Hartpury on Friday 25 September, securing national titles in both the Mixed Team and Ladies’ Team competitions.
There was further success in the individual competitions, with Rhys H taking the prestigious overall Top Gun title after hitting 56 targets. As part of his prize, Rhys won a shotgun generously donated by Browning.
Bredon’s success continued in the ladies’ individual competition, where Lilly F was named Ladies’ Top Gun.
The results are a fantastic achievement for our students and reflect the commitment they have shown throughout their training and competitive programme. Clay shooting provides students with opportunities to develop focus, concentration, confidence, self-discipline and decision-making under pressure, alongside the technical skills required for competition.
A successful championship
The championship was a fantastic opportunity for schools from across the country to come together and compete, and we were delighted to host such a successful event at Mount Oliver.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who helped organise and deliver the championship. Particular thanks go to Tim Shayle of Countryman Sports for his support in arranging the event and helping to create such a positive competition experience for all the schools involved.
We would also like to thank the Bredon team who worked behind the scenes throughout the day. Steve Thorley and the catering team, along with the Bredon School site team, did a fantastic job preparing the site and facilities and ensuring our visiting schools and guests were welcomed and well looked after.
Headmaster Mr Vokes-Dudgeon was there to support both Bredon teams in person, while Deputy Head Miss Eaton provided valuable support to the girls’ team around the stands.
Particular recognition must also go to Master in Charge of Shooting, Mr Wright, for the considerable organisation and preparation that went into making the programme and competition a success. The students were delighted to have Mr Wright back with them during the event following his recent return to school.
Looking ahead
With two national team titles and both individual Top Gun awards returning to Bredon, it was a hugely memorable day for the school and an excellent way to begin the new academic year.
We are looking forward to joining the growing circuit of HMC shooting schools throughout the rest of the academic year, with tougher challenges ahead for our students. The next fixture will be the Millfield Invitational at Mendip Shooting Ground on Thursday 5 November.
