Forces Families

Bredon School was founded by Lt-Col Sharp in 1962 and has a proud tradition of supporting military families throughout their education. As a registered Armed Services Covenant School , we welcome children of military parents, from all ranks and military disciplines and have a number of former ex service personnel on our staff.

Pupils can start boarding in Year 4 (age 9) and we provide continuity of education all the way through to Sixth Form (age 18).

We understand the lifestyle that can accompany being in the Armed Forces and we are able to fully support Forces children both academically and pastorally.

Pastoral Support

At Bredon we provide the stability and consistency to ensure Forces children can continue to thrive. Many of our pupils come from Forces families and are able to offer invaluable support to each other. Our boarding staff, led by Mr Starr (Director of Boarding, who himself spent 14 years serving with the British Army), are a purely pastoral team and understand what is required of serving personnel and are available to offer additional support when needed. Your child will be surrounded by friends (several of whom will be military children themselves) and we appreciate the particular needs, worries, understanding and support required to ensure your child’s experience is both fulfilling and fun. At all times staff are always on hand to listen and guide each child to ensure their wellbeing and happiness.

Although we are not a military school, we understand the importance of nurturing individuals’ skills and allowing them to experience adventure and challenge through our extensive extra curricular programme. In addition, all pupils from Year 9 upwards have the opportunity to be a part of Bredon School’s own thriving Combined Cadet Force (CCF) contingent.

Location

Bredon is located in north Gloucestershire and has excellent transport links. Bredon is less than an hour from Bristol, Birmingham and Oxford by car or train. London Paddington is approximately two hours by rail. Heathrow, Bristol and Birmingham airports are all one to two hours away by road.

Fees

Children whose parents are active members of the armed forces are entitled to a 10% discount. In addition, Bredon School is on the approved list for the Ministry of Defence Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) for Forces children aged 8-18. We are happy to provide assistance to eligible families with their application for the allowance, which is worth up to 90% of the fees (after our 10% Forces discount), with families paying the remaining 10% plus any extras incurred. This covers all boarding fees, meals, laundry and exams. The only extras you would pay for are for your child’s school uniform and sports uniform, as well as some extra-curricular optional trips (such as skiing).

The Children’s Education Advisory Service (CEAS) provides information and advice to Forces families and eligible MoD civilians on all aspects of the education of their children in the UK.
