Life Beyond the Classroom
A series of talks brought to life in specialist Wainwright lectures are offered to pupils and are often delivered by successful Alumni and Business Leaders. Inspirational and entrepreneurial, these lectures provide the opportunity for pupils to ask questions and establish contacts for life beyond Bredon. Underpinned by extensive career preparation, this enrichment programme forms an integral part of our Sixth Form provision.
Welcoming a variety of external speakers, some of whom are Old Bredonians or current parents each week, pupils gain insight into a wide range of subjects. Past speakers have covered topics such as career choices, apprenticeships, working in the voluntary sector, challenging yourself to name but a few..
Recent lectures have opened Sixth Form pupils’ eyes to the different pathways to careers in the Armed Forces and the emergency services. Other lectures have explored art, photography, Rowing the Atlantic, and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS).
The Wainwright sessions aim to broaden pupils’ understanding of the wider world and are an extremely important contribution to their ongoing preparation for life following their studies.
Work Experience Programme
Winner of the ISA Senior School Award for Academic Excellence and Innovation in recognition of our unique and extensive work experience programme. Work experience is a vital part of every pupils’ personal development
Pupils have the opportunity to take part in mock interviews with invited guests from a wide range of industries. This enables networking opportunities, experience new situations and fine tune their interview skills and techniques in a familiar yet realistic environment.
Pupils studying vocational and Level 2 courses also have the opportunity to spend up to one day a week in a work placement. This allows pupils to develop vital personal skills and has led to many pupils being offered paid employment or apprenticeship when they leave Bredon.
Work experience not only gives pupils an insight into the world of work and individual career areas but develops confidence to succeed in the next stage of life.
