Bredon wins ‘Independent School of the Year’ in Worcestershire Education Awards 2019

Bredon is delighted to be named ‘Independent School of the Year’ in this year’s Worcestershire Education Awards.

These awards, run by Worcester News in partnership with the University of Worcester, seek to recognise and celebrate the achievements, passions and dedication that exist in education settings across the region. The award winners were announced at a gala awards ceremony at The University of Worcester on 20 June.

Mr Koen Claeys, Headteacher at Bredon School comments: “We are obviously delighted to win this prestigious award. Not only does it recognise our dedicated teaching and pastoral teams who go the extra mile to make this such an excellent school, but it also pays tribute to all our wonderful and inspiring pupils who make the school what it is today.”

Bredon was ranked as the top school in England for ‘value added’ progress for 16-18 year olds by the Department for Education in January. Mr Claeys comments: “Being top of 4434 schools and colleges provides excellent endorsement for our vibrant community where every pupil is given the opportunity to thrive, both inside and outside the classroom.”

As a school with a specialism in supporting students with dyslexia and associated learning needs, Bredon also places great emphasis on non-academic success to build self-esteem and nurture essential life skills. Pupils benefit from the school’s beautiful 84-acre ‘outdoor classroom’ where they can discover life long passions and skills, whether through the School Farm, allotments, Forest School, climbing wall, clay pigeon shooting ground, Combined Cadet Force or Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

‘The Independent School of the Year’ Award follows on from Bredon’s success last month (May) when the school won the Wellbeing Mental Health Initiative Award at the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA) Awards. Bredon won this national award in recognition of the wellbeing initiatives embedded within the school to enhance self-esteem and wellbeing.
