School Life

A Thriving and supportive community

At Bredon, we’re proud of the strong sense of community that runs through everything we do. From the classroom to the countryside, students are encouraged to get involved, try new things and support one another along the way.

Life here is shaped by a balance of opportunity and care, whether through outdoor education, a wide range of facilities, academic pathways, or our pastoral support system. Together, these create a place where students can grow in confidence, feel at home and enjoy their time at Bredon.

Exceptional facilities in the heart of the countryside

Set within the Gloucestershire countryside, Bredon offers a unique environment where students can learn, explore and thrive. The school is surrounded by 11 acres of woodland, 8 acres of playing fields and a 37-acre farm, making outdoor learning a key part of everyday life.

Facilities across the site include an outdoor swimming pool, an astro pitch, a clay pigeon shooting ground and access to the River Severn for watersports and other activities. There are also two Forest School areas and a recently refurbished drama studio, providing a wide range of spaces for learning and creativity.

Outdoor education and adventure learning

Outdoor Education at Bredon gives students the chance to challenge themselves, build confidence and learn beyond the classroom. Whether climbing, kayaking, cycling, learning bushcraft in Forest School, or caring for animals on the school farm, students develop skills that last a lifetime.

A wide range of outdoor clubs and activities are also available, including rock climbing, archery, clay pigeon shooting, DofE, the Combined Cadet Force and kayaking. Students are also encouraged to suggest new activities, helping them shape their own experiences.

Opportunities beyond the timetable

Bredon offers a wide range of extracurricular opportunities, giving students the chance to explore everything from creative arts to practical, hands-on activities. Pupils can get involved in drama, music, Junior Farm Clubs, and Forest School activities such as beekeeping, encouraging them to discover new interests and develop new skills.

There are also strong opportunities for leadership, particularly within the Sixth Form, where students take on greater responsibility and support younger pupils across the school community. The Combined Cadet Force is another important part of school life, helping students build confidence, teamwork and discipline through structured training and activities.

The school farm and animal care are central to daily life at Bredon, providing regular hands-on experiences beyond the classroom and giving students valuable practical involvement throughout the week.

Wellbeing, guidance and personal support

Pastoral care at Bredon ensures every student feels supported, valued and known. Through our house system, students are placed into small tutor groups where staff build strong relationships and provide regular check-ins both in and out of lessons.

Heads of House and tutors play a central role in daily school life, helping students settle in, stay on track, and know there is always someone to talk to when needed. Alongside this, strong safeguarding systems are in place to ensure students feel safe, supported and able to make the most of their time at Bredon.
